Even after signing up to do a unit over the winter break I still have 3 weeks off.. without work it’s not so easy to pass the time. I’ve taken up reading again, working my way through The Magician – Feist’s first book. I’ts friggin awesome, not sure why it’s taken me 2 years to get half way through it. While it’s hefty at ~650 pages the writing is easy to follow and enthralling.
Any fans of the US Office will appreciate the following blue print, maybe combine it with the freakiest toy known to man (that is if you’ve seen Saw).
Anyone else annoyed by Google’s latest doodle, a full page random image.. my god it’s ghastly and ugly. What’s worse is there is no obvious way to remove it, or indication it’s only a trial for the day. This has got to be the first time I’ve been annoyed at Google.. dam you for making me upset at you! Found this gem which explains how to remove it, well sort of..
Was listening to Hamish and Andy the other day and they went into a discussion about cute animals. One of their rules was it couldn’t have eyes on the side of their head.. however I disagree. If cute turtles aren’t your thing, what about Wile E. Coyote?
Up until 5 minutes in I was so excited it hurt… The teaser then goes on to mention a certain tournament and reality kicked in. I was hoping for a SyFy style revamp, however this looks entertaining.
Why? Because I was born 26 years.. 26! That’s over half way to the first milestone.. age creeps up on you in funny ways. Ever since year 8 I don’t feel like I’ve changed much, playing the class clown and acting out like someone with ADD – now I’m 26 and things don’t seem that different when I’m with friends. Do we ever change?
2 exams down and the last one on Friday, going ok I suppose. It’s been 4 or 5 odd years since I was at uni properly and this whole exam thing is odd. I’m studying Internet Software Development as my major, with a handful of minors – basically it’s Programming with some Internet non sense thrown in. In an effort to finish my degree off in a year I’ve decided to do one of the fast track units over the winter break, madness I know.
A collection of some interesting articles over the past few days:
Interesting video (warning: 10 minutes long) about time perspectives and how it affects us by RSA Animate – have see a few interesting presentations from them lately, similar to TED in a sense.
Hah this made me smile:
nom nom nom
The world of electronics is about to make a dramatic change in the next 5 to 10 years I think. The following two articles talk about flexible OLED’s (a lot of chatter about transparant displays as well) and the main stream adoption of optics – Light Peak for example.
As Frank Reynolds would say, because poop is funny!
This is for my brother, was at dinner with him a few hours ago trying to describe this video and got some appalling looks from my family, friends and of course strangers. I’m not sure how people would actually be brave enough to do this in a work place, perhaps with a close group of guys. It’s definitely on my list of stupid things that I just have to do once.. or twice.. a few times before I die. Think of it as a warped bucket list.
As a side note, if you’ve never seen the US version of The Office.. do it! I’m a huge BBC fan (the whole English thing) however I much prefer the US one. There are a number of classic office pranks that get played, typically from Jim to Dwigth – a collection can be found below. My favourite of all is where Jim tells a story about weighting a phone with penny’s everyday until one day he removes them all and Dwight knocks himself out by assuming the phone will be heavy .. HAH have to see it.
I only ever tried this on my uncle a couple of years ago, and it took him a good 24 hours before I got an SMS filled with h’s and a’s.
Got an exam tomorrow, luckily the gods have found pity on me and all my exams are in the afternoon. It’s always interesting to see how students will spend 20-50 hours working on an assignment worth 20% of the year but an exam worth 50% typically gets no more than 5-10 hours of study and preparation. Will we ever learn?
It’s so easy to get lost and distracted on the computer, let alone the Internet. I’m studying for my uni exams and always manage to find a way to get procrastinate a little bit longer.
Studying is taxing..
If you’ve never heard of ‘The Oatmeal’ I strongly suggest you head on over and check out their site – a satirical comic in a sense that takes the Mickey about whatever tickles their fancy. There latest thing~ about male angler fish is to die for. Check it out here.
A great find for Back To The Future – I’d be surprised if anyone got this.
Anyone who knows me will be familiar with my pro-English ranting from time to time. I really have no real reason for it, apart from I was born there and have to hold onto my heritage somehow. I came across the following short article which basically says English babes have bigger honkers.. woot!
Hopefully going to be a little bit more regular with my posts, I’ve decided to give up Facebook in a week as well as MMO’s. I’ll be doing a post about both in the near future – back to study for me.
I marvel at the creativity of some people, this is a cracker:
There has been a bit of interest of lack in going retro, bringing back the 8 bit (or at least paying homage). One of my favourites which was my ring tone for a good year is an 8 bit remix of Chocolate Rain.. yup I went there and so did coda!
Brings back memories of classic games like Shinobi, Contra, Mega Man – the good old days. It’s all about graphics these days, gah give me some frigging game play. I think despite Nintendo’s criticism their focus on game play is a move in the right direction – there is only so far we can go before photo realism is here.
